About Me

DR WASHINGTON O. OCHOLA is a Kenyan born on January 7th 1967 in Kisumu. He is married with two children (Tamara and Willard). He holds a PhD in Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development from Agricultural University of Athens, Greece and Master of Science in Agricultural Systems Engineering and Management from South China Agricultural University. He attained a First Class Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Education and Extension from Egerton University, Kenya in 1990. He is a Senior Lecturer/Researcher at the Department of Agricultural Education and Extension of Egerton University on Leave of Absence and now works at the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), Kampala - Uganda as the Program Manager for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation.

He has done extensive research, taught and supervised many MSc and PhD students in various fields including agricultural extension, sustainable livelihoods, agriculture and rural innovations, natural resources management, knowledge management, ICT, agricultural education. He has published many scientific papers in refereed journals and authored many books and chapters. He was a collaborating lead author in the International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD) and the Global Environment Outlook. He has done a number of international consultancies and continues to support many international processes. He is an international trainer with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) leading the Global and African Environment Outlook processes of the National, Regional and Global Integrated Environmental Assessment and Reporting (IEAR) by supporting scenario and policy analysis. Together with other renown authors, he is working on other articles, books and reports. He is also a reviewer to many international journals including computers and electronics in agriculture.
